✨🎭 From ‘The A Word’ to ‘Words in Waiting’: My One-Woman Show Journey ✨🎭

After the rollercoaster ride with ‘The A Word,’ I was itching to dive back into the world of theatre. The only issue? A cast of seven wasn’t going to cut it this time around. As much as I’m driven by passion and creativity, the reality of the industry tapped me on the shoulder and reminded me that there’s a business side to all this theatrical magic. While ticket sales for ‘The A Word’ went well, covering the cost of hiring the cast, rehearsals, and everything in between left a gaping black hole.

So, to cut costs, I decided to combine several characters into one and take on the challenge of a one-woman show and direct the play myself. Cue the dramatic music! 🎭

Crafting a one-woman play was like navigating uncharted waters for me. I’ve written my fair share of books and scripts, but this was a whole new ballgame. It took months of rewrites and late-night brainstorming sessions to get to the point where I’m ready to kickstart rehearsals with the star of the show – Hazel Young!

Hazel’s the brilliant actor who has embraced the challenge of bringing not one, not two, but five distinct characters to life within this one-woman performance. Hazel is no stranger to the world of theatre, having showcased her talent in various productions – including the A Word 🙂

I also have an amazing production designer, Phoenix Blu Coyle on board, and for the past few weeks, we’ve been collaborating to create the perfect visual world for the play.

With just three months on the clock until opening night, the pressure is on to get everything just right. But you know what they say, ‘Pressure makes diamonds’. 💎
